FAQs About an Outpatient Program

Answering Five of the Most Frequently Asked Questions About Outpatient Rehabilitation Programs

There are multiple types of rehabilitation programs going around the United States of America, and one of the most popular ones is an outpatient rehabilitation program.

Here at Skyward Treatment, we also offer outpatient rehabilitation programs as this is one of the most trusted and reliable treatments that most recovering patients prefer.

In this article, we’re going to be answering five of the most frequently asked questions about outpatient rehabilitation programs:

  1. What is an outpatient rehabilitation program?

To put it simply, an intensive outpatient program or IOP is a type of addiction recovery program catered to patients who want to live outside of the facility but still visit the recovery clinic a few times a week. Normally, an IOP requires around three to four days a week of visitation or sessions, leading to 12 hours each week.

  1. How do outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation programs differ?

You can differentiate an outpatient from an inpatient rehabilitation program from the name itself. An inpatient rehabilitation program means that the patient is only permitted to live inside the rehabilitation facility as long as they’re undergoing their addiction treatments. In contrast, an outpatient rehabilitation program is a program where patients are free to live in their own homes while visiting the facility for their detox and sessions.

  1. What kind of therapies are involved in an outpatient rehabilitation program?

There are different kinds of therapies involved, but the most common ones are group therapy and cognitive-behavior therapy. Some rehabilitation facilities also offer peer support groups and family counseling to help you mend your broken relationships with those you love.

Honestly, there’s no one-size-fits-all therapy plan. Skyward Treatment customizes each treatment for the personal needs of each patient.

  1. Who is a good candidate for an outpatient rehabilitation program?

It’s true that an outpatient rehabilitation program sounds like a great treatment plan, but it’s not for everybody. Before admitting a patient for our outpatient treatments, we always assess them one by one. Not only that, but the ideal candidate should also have the following traits:

  • They shouldn’t be at risk of medical complications during their detoxification process.
  • They should feel motivated to attend their counseling regularly.
  • They should have a moderate or even mild drug or alcohol addiction.
  • They should have transportation arrangements to and from Skyward Treatment or the rehabilitation facility of their choice.
  • They should have stable living conditions and a strong support system.

  1. What happens after you complete your outpatient rehabilitation program?

After you complete your outpatient rehabilitation program, ongoing support may still be needed so you won’t have that relapse temptation. It’s true that relapse prevention is easier for those who make it through outpatient treatment, but it’s still better to take the necessary precautions. Try joining support groups and even include ongoing counseling if you can. This will help you reach your goal of long-term sobriety.
