Addiction is taking its hold over countries as procurement of substances is becoming easier. There is a huge chance that you or someone you know is struggling with addiction. However, addiction is treatable and several programmes can help addicts lead healthy lives and let go of their substance abuse.
What is outpatient treatment?
Outpatient treatment programmes are similar to the outpatient programmes offered by the hospitals. They do not require the patient to get themselves checked into a 24-hour facility. Instead, you are required to visit on certain days where people are required to undergo treatment.
Most of this therapy is routine checkups and group therapy. However, there are situations where doctors recommend individual therapy.
What is Intensive outpatient therapy?
Before understanding Intensive outpatient therapy (IOP), it is better to understand the concept of ‘Private Hospitalization program’ (PHP). This is because before enrolling in an IOP, addicts are required to undergo PHP where you are required to undergo therapy for 5 hours, 5 days a week. Typically, it consists of people undergoing 4 sessions of group therapy followed by 1 day of individual therapy.
After completing your PHP, you will be allowed to go for IOP. It is characterized as a middle-tier programme. People can also choose to be a part of an IOP first. Once you’re enrolled in an IOP, the time spent in rehab is greatly reduced. As per the clinical advice given, people are required to go for rehab for 3-5 days a week. Moreover, most of these sessions are group-intensive with the exception of at least 1 individual session. These sessions usually go on for about 3 hours of your time.
Benefits of Intensive Outpatient Therapy
Let us take care of any doubts that people usually have. IOP is equally effective when compared to programs such as inpatient treatments. Therefore, do not think that just because you’re not admitted to an institution means that you are compromising on your quality.
IOP is quite effective for people who do not wish to compromise on their work. Inpatient treatment facilities require the patients to visit regularly. Therefore, it also helps to save up on money as you are not required to pay for amenities and accommodation. This is great for people who want an affordable treatment for their addiction.
